September 5, 2020September 5, 2020 Gabriella

Disability in Media – A Primer

April 10, 2018April 10, 2018 Gabriella

As an undergraduate student, I studied film. I really love it. I love storytelling, I love popular media, and I love the power that movies, TV shows and books have to change lives. Over the years, I've noticed that the representation of people with disabilities on film has been lacking in a few important ways.… Continue reading Disability in Media – A Primer

A Note About Language

Although people-first language has previously been thought of as the least offensive way to discuss disability, I prefer to use identity-first language through terms like “disabled person” instead of “person with a disability.” I find that this makes my writing easier to read and it legitimizes disability as a positive identity trait rather than one that negates humanity. I do not mean to invoke any negative feelings about appropriate terminology.  Please contact me through my contact page if I am using otherwise inappropriate or offensive terms.
